Jan 13 - Westvale Public School, Waterloo ON
Dr. Anne-Marie Zajdlik spoke to the grades 4-6 classes this afternoon at Westvale Public School in Waterloo Ontario.
Dr. Zajdlik was there at the invitation of Ms. Cathy Freeman, school librarian, and spoke to approximately 150 students about the HIV/AIDS pandemic in sub Saharan Africa, particularly focusing on the situation African nation of Lesotho. Dr. Zajdlik has worked in the Tsepong HIV/AIDS Clinic in the Leribe district of Lesotho twice in the past three years, and now leads the Bracelet of Hope Campaign to raise money to assist in funding that clinic.
The Westvale students were enthusiastic participants, and purchased Bracelets of Hope and pledged to sell even more in the coming weeks. The talk concluded with an energetic Q & A session in which students asked a large number of wide-ranging questions. Students were encouraged to stand up and join the campaign. Dr. Zajdlik plans to campaign hard to put a bracelet on the wrist of every Canadian in the next few years, raise awareness of the HIV/AIDS and put an end to the disease in Lesotho.
