Bracelet of Hope

Matlali E. Sekoati

My name is Matali Sekoati. I tested HIV positive in September 2005. When I first came to Tsepong I was weak, and my mind was totally disoriented. As time went I found counselling and comfort in daily prayer conducted by the Tsepong support staff which gave me longing for the next follow up visit.

Initially I was afraid to disclose my HIV status to my children, but Mahlonepho (Tsepong support staff) gave me a word of encouragement. I became strong and found a footing in my HIV status.

I started ARV therapy in April 2006. I developed very worrying side effects. My feet started giving me trouble, but it did not come as a surprise because I was made aware of potential side effects.

Since I have been taking ARVs, I don’t have opportunistic infections. Tsepong staff have supported me in a wonderful manner.

Living with HIV/AIDS in Lesotho has taught me to pray and believe in God. Tsepong has given me everlasting hope. I have committed everything to my Creator.

A person living with HIV cannot be easily distinguished from others until he/she has developed into full blown AIDS.

Counselling services have taught me that education is not the only answer to HIV therapy but Jesus is also the answer.

I wish Tsepong all success and growth in its endeavors. He who loves life must come to Tsepong.

Unfortunately my two children died of HIV/AIDS related diseases because Tsepong did not exist then.

Fortunately, my grandchildren and I are very proud of Tsepong and we don’t live in fear. We shall live as long as Jesus wishes.
